The eagerly anticipated Peachtree Grand is finally here! Chris Havekost, our Denver store manager, calls it “simply extraordinary.” It’s:

An integrated amplifier/DAC designed to get the most out of today’s digital sources

Class D amp cranks out 400-watts per channel into 8 ohms 20Hz-20kHz

ESS Sabre32 9018 Digital-to-Analog Converter, widely recognized as world’s best 32-bit DAC

Asynchronous USB input provides the best connection between computer and DAC

Bascom King Tube Buffer smooths the harsh digital edge found in poor recordings and compressed audio

“The Grand Integrated was paired with the Sonus Faber Elipsa SE, and… I’d say that the Grand Integrated certainly man-handled those speakers with dynamic aplomb. Or is that panache? I mean slam. The source was a MacBook Pro running Amarra and we listened to The Shins, Peter Gabriel and many more, and as I looked around at the other listeners I saw lots of smiles and grins. No pensive stares, no brow-furrowed frowns straining to hear the sound of one capacitor clapping, just people enjoying themselves and the music.”

— Michael Lavorgna, AudioStream.com

The Grand Integrated is Peachtree Audio’s first no-holds-barred, 400 watt-per-channel integrated amp. It houses four custom matched components in one box, saving you space without compromising performance. In one chassis you’ll find a high resolution DAC, a hybrid tube preamplifier, a 400-watt-per-channel high-efficiency amplifier, and a state of the art headphone amp. It’s so simple to use, anyone can enjoy great sound at the push of a button and the turn of a knob…

My Name is David Huddleston and I’m the Branch Manager at ListneUp’s Colorado Springs Store. My tip today is about a very common question. What is the best way to connect my speaker wire to the amp or the speaker? While there is no simple answer, there are a few guidelines you can follow. (See video)

First, the very best connection is always going to be bare wire. You want to get a good mechanical crush. By mechanical crush I mean when you tighten up the connector inside the binding post it actually slightly crushes the wire within the post. The advantage of it is you really create a physical connection between the binding post and the wire.

The second best connection is going to be spades. While you aren’t really crushing the bare conductor itself, when you put the spade in you can crush it down with the binding post — so that is second best. The nice thing about spades is that they are easier to switch out. You will also be able to see little marks on the spade when it has been pinched down.

The third and my personal favorite are banana connectors. They are spring loaded and fit in the hole on the binding post, and with that spring-loaded action you almost get a crush bearing out on the connector. You slide your wire in and use the allen tool to tighten the conductor down, which creates a mechanical crush between the allen srew and the wire and makies a good physical connection within the banana conductor. When you insert that in the binding post it makes a nice a snug fit. The nice thing about this is it is easy to work on, fits in when a spade won’t, and is the easiest to make equipment changes to. It also keeps you from damaging binding posts by over tightening them. With banana conductors you are getting the best of both worlds.

Hi — I’m Gary Wrasse, sales consultant/system designer with ListenUp Colorado Springs. Today’s Tech Tip is on design… specifically for your dedicated home theater and the color for it. (View video)

The ideal color temperature is of 6500 degrees Kelvin. That pretty much makes your home theater a dull deep grey. Most people would say that is not the color they want their room to be, but this episode is about how color will influence the image you see from the screen itself.

If you have bright red leather furniture and gloss blue walls, for instance, those colors will affect the image and quality of the color you see from the projector. They will reflect back on to the screen. So if you have made an investment in a good quality projector and screen you want to mitigate that with the proper colors in the room itself.

Please note that it doesn’t have to be deep dark battleship grey. You just have to be mindful that the color around the room will effect what you see on the screen. So play with colors on the walls. Deep colors in matte finishes will help in terms of not reflecting the furnishing colors in the room back onto the screen. That is an introduction to wall color in your home theater and how it will affect your viewing enjoyment…
